May and June
4th class enjoyed a wonderful school tour at the end of May with Let’s Go tours at Kingfisher. It was a day eagerly awaited by the boys. It was a great activity based day that was action packed and full of fun and excitement. A wide variety of activities included inflatable games, tug-o-war, wrecking ball, Disco Dome, KMX karts and much much more. By the time we returned to school it’s fair to say that we were all exhausted!
On June 4th and 5th some of our 4th class pupils took part in Mat-ilda the Musical. Just shy of 40 pupils from 3rd to 6th classes took part and they just blew us away with their talent and enthusiasm. We are so very proud of them. They had a dedicated team working with them – Director Andrew Holden, Musical Director Catherine Power, Music Teacher Danny Pullman, Choreographer Ms. Graham and Sound Technicians Pat & Zach Maher. Well done to all involved, you were simply wonderful and we couldn’t be prouder.
In the busyness of term 3 it was a lovely treat to welcome Bernie Woods to work with several classes. Bernie explored mindfulness through art activities, stories, discussions and meditations. The pupils learned how to calm and relax their minds, be compassionate towards themselves, explore their thoughts and feelings and pay attention to the present moment through various awareness practices. We thoroughly enjoyed Bernie’s Thursday visits and hope to see her again soon.
Finally, to the wonderful 4th class of 2024/2025, it has been an absolute pleasure to be your teacher this year. I loved our morning meetings, our chats, jokes and stories. I wish you and your families a lovely relaxing summer break and wish you all well in 5th class.

January to March
4th class has been so busy over the last few months. We’ve certainly had a jam packed term. We were very fortunate to have a visit from The Vikings! The Vikings were a huge hit when they visited 4th, 5th and 6th classes in St. Paul’s to tell us about some of their customs, games and entertainment, weapons, food and diet, clothing and skills. We thoroughly enjoyed their visit and appreciate their sharing of such vast knowledge.
In other news, 3rd and 4th classes participated in the Play Rugby initiative coordinated by Waterford Sports Partnership in partnership with Munster Rugby. This programme focused on enjoyment whilst learning the basic fundamental movement and rugby skills. Conall Fitzpatrick, a rugby participation officer, came to the school for a number of weeks and taught us many drills and skills associated with two touch rugby. These sessions culminated in a Rugby Blitz on March 25th at Waterford City RFC, Kilbarry. The focus on the day was two-fold: respect and enjoyment. We had a great time and really appreciate the opportunity afforded to us.
We are also refining our hurling skills at present. David Robinson has joined us for a number of weeks and we will have some hurling blitzes to look forward to in term 3.
Seachtain na Gaeilge was a very busy week. We had Ceol tradisiúnta with Ms Cox and a friend of hers who visited and played a few instruments for us while one of our 3rd class pupils danced a jig for us. We had a Tráth na gCeist for 3rd to 6th classes. We had mixed teams from all classes and it was a huge success. The Céilí in the school hall was quite an experience! We ended the week with a lovely whole school assembly to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Each class performed for the other classes and it was a lovely whole school event.
Our final term promises to be busy with lots of fun things in store. School tours, sports day and much much more awaits. Looking forward to seeing you all in term 3!

November and December
November and December were rather busy months and 4th class was a hub of constant activity. We were delighted to have our annual visit from Little Red Kettle on November 19th. Many of the 4th class boys starred in the show and were incredibly funny! Well done to all who took part.
We also took part in the 12 Days of Christmas which was organised by Ms. Vereker. Activities ranged from breakfast in the hall, the Christmas door competition, the very exciting talent show, board games, odd sock day, each pupil lighting up St Paul’s with kindness, the Santa Run, hot chocolate day, colouring competition, poet – tree day, Christmas jumper day and much more. We also enjoyed some baking with the help of some of the 4th class parents, Ms. Kent and Ms. Vereker. Many thanks to the parents who kindly gave up some of their free time to help out. We were so busy making our short bread that we completely forgot to take any photos!
There was plenty of festive art too. The boys made a phenomenal team effort to decorate our classroom door and the area around our door. A special well done to those involved in the drawing of the Grinch and the design of the door pieces.
We were also busy rehearsing for our concert which was a great success. 3rd, 4th and 6th classes sang together and did a fabulous job. While the 4th class pupils were brilliant on the recorders, some of our 5th and 6th class boys showed what they have learned on their instruments and were outstanding on the flute, saxophone and clarinet. As ever, we were delighted to have Danny Pullman put the finishing touches to our musical pieces. Huge thanks to both Mr. Dunne and Danny for adding to and enhancing our concert. We were also very fortunate to have a visit from Danny and the Music Generation wind band which included some of our past pupils. They performed in the school hall for the entire school and were simply outstanding. Thank you for taking the time to visit St. Paul’s and sharing your talent with us.
Wishing you all a very happy, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas break and every good wish for the new year. Enjoy your well deserved break.

September and October
What a busy half term it has been! I was delighted to welcome 4th class back to school on September 2nd. We have had an incredibly busy two months catching up with friends, getting to know one another and settling into our daily routine.
Our Morning Meeting has been a huge success. During our meetings we greet each other using languages from all over the world. We then have a daily question which is an opportunity for everyone to share ideas and opinions on the topic of the day. We always look forward to ending our meeting with a game.
We are very fortunate to have Danny Pullman from Music Generation back with us again. While all of the class learn recorder, quite a number of the class also have lessons with Danny to learn the clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and flute. What a talented bunch!
We are also enjoying working on and learning life skills with Eoin and Tadhg on Wednesday afternoons. So far we’ve worked on self- esteem and decision making skills.
In art lessons, we have created some fabulous pieces that are hanging beautifully in the classroom and the corridor. During September we worked with bright and vibrant colours. We focused on some great pastel techniques when working on ‘The Wandering Elephant.’ Much of our art work during September was focused on portrait work and all about me pieces. October art work has been very much Halloween themed. Some creations include vampires, monsters and blob creatures.
We’ve been busy outside the classroom too. We’ve enjoyed 6 swimming lessons in Kingfisher. We’ve also had Austin Gleeson visit us for some Gaelic football skills and drills. We were invited to take part in some Under 10 Gaelic football matches locally. While we didn’t win, we represented our school so well. We had great fun, enjoyed our time away from school and had a mighty sing song on the bus on the way home!
Following a very busy half-term, I wish all 4th class pupils and their families a very happy and safe Halloween and a well-earned midterm break. Enjoy the break!

4th Class 2023-2024
September and October
Hello and welcome to Fourth Class! We have all settled in really well and are working very hard. We had a busy half term. Some of our boys represented the school in a Gaelic Football Blitz. They showed great skill and determination to earn a place in the final. Unfortunately, the weather has not been on our side and we have had to cancel the final a few times. On the positive side, this has given us even more time to practice. We are really looking forward to playing it in the next week or two and we wish the boys the very best of luck.
We also got to go to SETU for Maths Week. We learned about the magic of maths and how maths is everywhere in the world around us.
We are really excited to start The Life Skills Programme with Eoin and we’re looking forward to the next half term and the run up to Christmas.

3rd Class 2022-2023
January in Mr. Jones’ Class
The children took part in an art competition to design a new training jersey for Waterford GAA. They came up with some amazing and unique designs.
In ICT, the class have been becoming familiar with reading and writing code using Scratch. They created various animations and games.

December in Mr. Jones’ Class
In art this month, we moulded snowmen using clay and then used paint and pipe cleaners to decorate them once dry. We were very proud of the results!

September in Mr. Jones’ Class
The boys in third class were working as engineers to try design and build different types of bridges from everyday items in the classroom.
